Lopez Island is one of Post's most popular trips. During the three days on the beautiful island, students can choose to explore it by bike, foot or kayak. For the more laid back life, there is also the option of just chilling with friends or playing sports or games on the field! This is one of the least structured trips that Post offers, perfect for letting off some of the back-to-school stresses. Students are given the freedom of tenting with any friend they choose (of the same gender!), as well as leaving and returning from camp whenever they wish from about 9:30am to 5:30pm. This trip is staffed by students as well as either teacher and/or parent chaperones.
This trip is scheduled to run once a year in the fall with approximately 75 people. However, it is being run twice this year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Students are picked up from Garfield High School and dropped at the Anacortes ferry dock where they take the ferry to the Lopez Island. They then walk about one quick mile from the ferry dock to Odlin State Park, where our base of operations takes place. We rent a large truck for transportation of all gear and bikes. The cost of the trip is usually low, but depends from year to year.
Campers must turn in the Camper Form, Student Progress Report, District Form and Scholarship Form if applicable by April 15th.
