Wilderness Survival is a course designed to teach even the m ost extreme city slicker what it takes to survive in the forest with only basic camping gear, and have fun at the same time!

Led by two highly trained Post staff members, you and your teammates will enter the forest with a limited knowledge of surviving in the outdoors and all your gear for the weekend on your backs. As a group you will be taught how to build a campsite and exist in the forest using the ideology of "leave no trace," or minimal impact on nature. You will learn different techniques of staying dry as well as the different types of heat loss and how to combat them. Traveling through the forest to different stations you will encounter other delightful Post staff who will train you in crucial s urvival aspects such as compass operation, navigation, knot tying, emergency preparation, and forest ecology. By the end of the weekend you will not only learn to function well as a team in a sticky situation, but you will also come away with the personal confidence of being able to survive in the woods in an emergency.

So come on down and sign up for Wilderness Survival! It's known as the entry course to the Post that many people participate in and then sign up for other more evolved survival oriented trips such as Advanced Survival and Siberia. And as if that wasn't enough to get you, completing Wilderness Survival is also the first step to joining our team of devoted Post staff.

Survival takes place in Issaquah in Cleveland Memorial Forest, a forest owned by the Seattle School district and maintained by volunteer groups like Post. All staff are MOFA (Mountaineering Oriented First Aid) certified and Red Cross certified in First Aid and CPR. Every Post trip is supervised by an adequate number of adult chaperones.
